Sea Level Rise and Ocean Acidification video for people in land locked states.

Growing up in a landlocked state you don't hear about many environmental issues involving the ocean. Sea level rise and Ocean Acidification are very important issues that I feel all people should be educated on. I made a short little video with a few facts about each issue for people in my hometown.

I started off by picking the topic that I could involve my hometown and my major. I am a Marine Chemistry major at Eckerd College. I grew up in a small town in South Western Pennsylvania. it is a small coalmining town with around 3,000 people. I wanted to pick a topic that not many people have heard of and something that involved my major so I decided to start with ocean acidification, and I also decided to add sea level rise as well. After I was done deciding what topics I had to use I figured I would make a short video with a could of facts from each issue and send it out to a nearby school district for all the teachers to see. one issue I had was being able to email all the video to all of them. My father is the principle of the school district I was gonna send it too.

In-class we talked about the sixth mass extinction. These issues are part of the sixth mass extinction that is going to hit the Earth. This will happen, however people don't know when or what is going to happen. There is speculation that multiple thinks will occur and it is our job to stop it.

I also made before and after surveys for the video that briefly asked how much information they knew about these environmental issues. These were simple questions basically asking what they knew and if this was the first video about these issues that they've seen.

Trashy Beaches and the Tourists Who Make Them

Health to the ocean means health for us. -Sylvia Earle             Saint Petersburg, Florida is one of the most beautiful places to live. Judging by the number of vacationers we get a year, almost 15 million, I would say the claim is practically indisputable (Sorolis). But, we have major problem. Tourists are great for our economy, but can be terrible for our beaches. A large part of the trash that ends up along our shores is the fallout from Spring Break beach parties and family events.
